Soft Red (Rubbers)
Found all over England and the UK, produced at various brickworks throughout the country from the 17th and 18th century. They are a hand made, soft textured brick with a face that can range from smooth to slightly creased and colour range from orange to dark red. Due to their character and texture they are often used for face and feature work, for example arches and around windows and doorways. They are also known as ‘red rubbers’ due to their ability to be rubbed by hand in to an ornate shape.
